On some clocks serving the same purpose, meaning a large dial, in the instance I'm trying to describe, the difference can be huge. I've got one clock in for repair that uses a bob (name of pendulum weight) under 10#, and another from a different maker at around 100#. Some are heavier. No rule of thumb as far as I know.
